Stewart Nicholas is a award winning artist, a fledgling conservationist, and veteran of the global war on terror.
He was born in the summer of 1978, in Syracuse New York. He was raised in Oswego County; primarily residing in the small towns of West Monroe, and Palermo. He is a graduate of Mexico Academy High School (Mexico, New York).
He received his formal training as a commercial artist, studying under William Davies at the Burton Ramer Technical Career School.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army; joining the ranks of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. In the spring of 2006, while assigned to the U.S Army's 10th Mountain Division, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Stewart served 10 years in the U.S. Army, during which time he grew into a more outgoing personality, and a maturing spirituality. Near the end of his term of service he found that daily life in the military was becoming detrimental to his creativity; and made the decision to explore other possibilities. In the spring of 2008, he left the military service to pursue a career in art.
In the fall of 2008, Stewart officially established his studio, Spiritually Inspired Art & Illustration; the logo for which, entitled Changing Leaves , was a self published collaborative effort made by both Stewart Nicholas, and fellow artist Michael Stowell. After reviewing Stewart's work on Changing Leaves, Stewart was approached by John Kent (president of Administrative Management Systems, Inc. ) with the oppurtunity to redesign the companies long standing company logo; excited about the oppurtunity, Stewart embraced the task and enlisted Michael Stowell's talent once again to complete the job. Spiritually Inspired Art & Illustration received praise for their work on the project, and the logo is now prominently displayed on Administrative Management System's website.
Since the establishment of his physical studio, and virtual home on the web, Stewart has continued to expand his online presence; with a fan page on facebook, and profiles on both twitter, and flickr, while additionally authoring a blog dually named Changing Leaves. However, in all this work he has not forgotten his local community; in April 2011, following conversations with established local Watertown artist Paul Lee, he became a card carrying member of the North Country Arts Council.
During his time as a professional artist Stewart has completed numerous pieces including TwentyThreeSix, and Seasons of Hope(a visual representation of his Christian testimony).
In the winter of 2005, one month before deploying to Afghanistan, Stewart met his wife Cheyne; the two were wed in the fall of 2007. In February 2009, the Nicholas family was blessed with the birth of their daughter Lyla; and February 2010 marked the arrival of their son Gavin. The Nicholas family, now reside in Sackets Harbor New York; a small historic village overlooking the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. Cheyne Nicholas is a domestic goddess, aspiring author, and as to be expected the heart of the Nicholas home.
His present work is representative of the depth of his spirituality, and is reflective of his love of nature, growth through marriage, and experience in fatherhood. |
